Washing Instructions for Carhartt High-Visibility Garments

High-visibility apparel is intended to make the wearer more visible with color enhanced fabrics and reflective taping. Like any type of clothing, these garments can fade, become soiled and torn, but with high-visibility apparel, these imperfections can reduce the effectiveness of the garment. Carhartt gives specific washing instructions for their High-Visibility items to help your clothing last as long as possible.
  • Color Enhanced: These shirts and sweatshirts do not have reflective taping but need to be machine washed warm with like colors. You can use non-chlorine bleach when needed on the knit shirts but not fabric softeners, do not use bleach on the color-enhanced sweatshirts. Both need to be tumbled dry medium and removed promptly.
  • High-Visibility Outerwear with 3M Reflective Material: Zip the garment and turn it inside out, machine wash cold separately. Do not bleach your hi-vis garment, tumble dry low and remove promptly. The outerwear can be cool ironed, but not laundered industrially. Maximum wash cycles: 25 for rainwear, 30 for vests.
  • High-Visibility Knit T-Shirts with 3M Scotchlite reflective material: Turn garment inside out and machine wash cold separately. Do not bleach or use fabric softeners, but tumble dry low and remove promptly. The knit shirts can be cool ironed, but not laundered industrially. Maximum wash cycles: 25.
  • High-Visibility Fleece Sweatshirts with 3M Scotchlite Reflective material: Zip garment and turn inside out, machine wash cold separately. Do not bleach or use fabric softeners, but tumble dry low and remove promptly. The fleece sweatshirts can be cool ironed, but not laundered industrially. Maximum wash cycles: 25.
  • High-Visibility Fleece Headwear with 3M Scotlite reflective material: Turn inside out, and machine wash cold separately. Do not bleach or use fabric softeners, but tumble dry low and remove promptly. The fleece headwear can be cool ironed, but not laundered industrially. Maximum wash cycles: 25.

It is important to follow all laundering instructions and maximum wash cycles of each garment. After the maximum amount of washes, the reflectivity on the 3M tape will not meet ANSI (American National Standards Institute) levels, and the item may not function properly.
